Educated at Bathurst, Québec, Montréal, and Ottawa universities, he followed further professionnal training in Paris, Avignon and Toulouse, France. Up until he took early retirement from CBC, he was one of the most recognized and respected journalists in the Atlantic region. He worked for more than 28 years at the CBC-french network as a journalist, broadcaster and anchorman for TV-news and radio shows. He has also taught radio and TV journalism at the University of Moncton.
Before entering at CBC, he worked in economic and social development in the northern region of New Brunswick.
Benoit is president of L'Association des boursières et boursiers France-Acadie after being secretary of the same association for many years. He is a former president and secretary-treasurer of NB Legislature, a former president of the Association acadienne des journalistes (AAJ), vice-president for America of l'Union internationale des journalistes et de la presse de langue francaise (UIJPLF) and former Canadian president-captain of the International Ski Club of Journalists (SKIJ).
